Thanks Indii for the links. The last review is awesome, very detailed and passionate. I translated it into English using " google translator"

Twenty-four years ago when the band debuted with a doom / death rather nobody had told staff that went on to become the band they are today. And is that the way it has come up to the sound ANATHEMA that we provide now has been long, dynamic and full of changes. Years of extreme metal were far behind and now we face a group that offers a progressive rock full of melody, experimental , avant-garde , shadows and light. And is that during the last years of its existence ANATHEMA have become the masters of the Ethereal. So are his songs, his music: ethereal , intangible and almost as deep and engaging as a black hole.

With "Distant Satellites" the band takes a step up from what we saw in " Weather Systems" , maintaining a personal, nontransferable ( hundred percent house brand ) sound but always looking forward. In this case the first thing we see is a more "dark" more melancholy turn if that definition may be considered appropriate for this sound (the biggest example of this is that all items are in a minor key ) . So we get " The Lost Song Part 1" , presenting a topic with a huge load in the voices of Vincent and Lee, with an amazing use of the keys , building an atmosphere of melancholy chiaroscuro , an almost painful intensity and absolutely intangible through a constant crescendo in a surprising tempo 5/8 just like a wave breaking on the beach, in a deceptive calm lulled by magnificent string arrangements .

A deceptive calm surf that brings us to "The Lost Song Part 2" , a topic much more classifiable as a shelf on which the voice of Lee wins on the role of Vincent and presents the epitome of how to turn a simple idea into a magnificent and almost bombastic piece that moves not only this album, but the band's sound itself , building steps a musical framework that can only be described as translucent , through which we can guess the intentions of the composition, thoughts of performers ... but ultimately leaves us no choice but to feel your energy : close your eyes and let us bring our own thoughts, our own thoughts and memories.

"Dusk ( Dark Is Descending" has become one of my favorite songs of this album , with a particular energy and a " cadence " that can remember the sound of " We're Here Because We're Here" but from a . different perspective is very striking something that has been felt from the first track and that seems to be confirmed as the album progresses : the guitars of this work, although they are excellent , they are always present and are works of genius that could only leave musicians of this caliber , they are far less players on a disc that brings more weight to the voices , the rhythm section and keyboards and piano that shape and life to this work. mastery with the band introduced or take a different topic structure elements , sounds and instruments give a unique dynamic to this topic .

The duo of Vincent Lee on the microphone and gives a very personal and unique approach to vocal lines ANATHEMA latent and is particularly an issue as " Ariel " , a cut of baladesco spirit with the piano again very present. The combination of the two vocal performers in the bridge -chorus of the theme brings a sense of pseudo - climax that no other group can claim in the current scene. It is for things how are you why I say that the band have become Masters of the Ethereal : It is hard to imagine how it may appear that there is so little (as few elements as simple ideas ... ) and suddenly see flourish a topic of a magnitude well .

It is the turn of "The Lost Song Part 3" and we already find ourselves totally immersed in the world of ANATHEMA . As we showed in PINK FLOYD "The Wall" three parts of "Another Brick In The Wall" , the second single clear , the Cavanagh brothers present us with three parts of "The Lost Song" , the latter being the single disk . With a more affordable tempo, melody easier to remember and less complex (though no less outstanding ) development , the issue offers a preview of the album , leaving recognizable hear the sound of the band without actually revealing anything truly significant on the final drive assembly . In a parallel film this is as it should be a good trailer: is intense , creates intrigue and leaves you wanting more without revealing major plot details .

The title of this issue and makes you think it will not be an issue as everyone else. Simply carrying the title of the band 's name is an indication that there is something special . And what if it is. " Anathema " is , in my opinion, the greatest wonder of this work and with enough of a difference to be the moon that shines among the stars of this tracklist. This is a part-time in which we find an almost absolute role of Daniel in the piano and the voice of Vincent , with a subtle but essential string arrangements . Gradually he unravels a tune to which elements are incorporated , step by step , slow cooking to one of the most horrific atmospheres I've heard lately fire. Deeply felt , this is one of those songs that make all your emotions vibrate in unison . The guitar input can only be described as majestic and its contribution to the subject as one of the greatest geniuses of the last five years.

"You're Not Alone" is a rock cut, with a more direct ANATHEMA music side. A great use of synth, good bass lines and a solid rhythm section and powerful make a fun topic that may be a good second single, creating an interesting contrast to the previous . Within the disk plays a role and brings some refreshing aggressiveness, some chaos , making this work a more dynamic experience .

" Firelight " is presented as an instrumental interlude with less than three minutes in duration , with an interesting piece and well run itself , serves the obvious function to serve as an introduction to the topic title track . "Distant Satellites" is undoubtedly the most " revolutionary " theme of this disc. Supported on a purely electronic basis (yes, you read correctly , electronics) , the subject develops a progressive melody, away from any conventional structure and leading creative limits ANATHEMA several steps further . Intense, full of feeling and very deep , this court raises a journey of more than eight minutes in which the band has put all eggs in one basket . Guided by the voice of Vincent we move into lands that seem almost unexplored and we discover the magic that is capable of unleashing the British formation . It is amazing how they have managed a topic so different and so unusual base ( electronic music is almost a taboo for many fans of rock and metal ) it has become one of the cuts more praise internationally are getting. Games melodies, very atmospheric developments and a major role for piano, voice and Vincent (both conventional and electronic "loops" ) , "Distant Satellites" rhythm section could be considered even a good choice for ringing in pubs and clubs " popular " . And yet, it is one of the most interesting and surprising parts of the disc .

As much as we like to put it off , the album comes to an end with "Take Shelter ." Advancing a steady crescendo , this is one of the most potent issues raised ANATHEMA us in this work, a sensational development to reach the climax of their intangible intensity. Perfect for a round disc that deserves absolutely end many , many tracks .

Maybe this is one of the albums we all remember when the time to think about the best of the year arrives. Outstanding in all respects.
